Today marks 83 years since the arrest of the great poet and thinker Huseyn Javid. On June 4, 1937 was written in black letters in the life of Huseyn Javid, like many prominent representatives of the Azerbaijani intelligentsia.

Speaking at the XIII Congress of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan on June 3, 1937, the Secretary of the Central Committee Mirjafar Bagirov sharply criticized many Azerbaijani intellectuals, including Huseyn Javid, whom he called "enemies of the people." After that harsh speech, Soviet penitentiaries came to Huseyn Javid's apartment that night, arrested him, and deported him to Siberia two years later. Many of the artist's works were destroyed during a search of the writer's house.

Javid lovers were also persecuted for declaring Huseyn Javid an "enemy of the people", the poet's works were removed from libraries, and he was branded a "pan-Turkist" and "pan-Islamist".

Along with Huseyn Javid, his pen friends Mikayil Mushvig, Ahmad Javad and Seyid Huseyn were also arrested that night.

The night of June 4, 1937, which was the beginning of tragedies for Mr. Javid and his family, left deep traces in the memory of not only this family, but the whole nation.
