23.06.2020 / New publications Academician Isa Habibbayli: “President Ilham Aliyev once again taught history lesson to Pashinyan”

“At the Summit of the Eastern Partnership countries, which was held in the form of a videoconference, the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan exposed himself again.” This was stated in an interview with SİA by the first vice-president of ANAS, MP Milli Majlis, academician Isa Habibbayli.

According to him, President Ilham Aliyev once again taught Pashinyan a history lesson: “Following its national interests, Azerbaijan attaches great importance to cooperation with the European Union. The European Union also expresses its interest in developing relations with our country. In his speech at the Summit of the Eastern Partnership Countries, which was held on June 18 in the form of a video conference, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev emphasized this again: “Azerbaijan is an active partner country of the Eastern Partnership. Cooperation with the European Union is one of the main priorities of Azerbaijan’s foreign policy. We maintain close cooperation with many member countries of the European Union.”

Isa Habibbeyli also noted that, like at the previous summit, President Ilham Aliyev at this summit exposed the lies of the Prime Minister of Armenia and expressed Azerbaijan’s principled position in connection with the resolution of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and also resolutely voiced historical facts and realities: “To be more precise, President Ilham Aliyev once again taught Pashinyan a lesson in history. The head of our state once again stated that Armenia occupied 20 percent of the territory of Azerbaijan, conducted ethnic cleansing on civilians of Azerbaijani nationality in the occupied lands, the Armenians destroyed our cultural heritage, the Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh have no historical heritage. President Ilham Aliyev emphasized at the Summit that Nagorno-Karabakh is an integral part of Azerbaijan. 4 UN Security Council resolutions require a complete and unconditional withdrawal of Armenian troops from all occupied territories of Azerbaijan. These resolutions must be unconditionally implemented. The final and unambiguous position

of Azerbaijan is that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict should be resolved only if the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan is respected and on the basis of relevant UN Security Council resolutions. Because Nagorno-Karabakh is an integral part of Azerbaijan both from a historical and legal point of view.”

According to academician Isa Habibbayli, the historical truth, once again voiced by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the facts cited by him put Pashinyan in a very difficult position: “The most ridiculous moment was how Pashinyan raised the question of racism and received a significant response from the head of our state. The response of President Ilham Aliyev at the summit was very tough and significant: “What I said in my speech is a historical truth based on resolutions of international organizations. First of all, everyone knows the fact that Armenia occupied the territory of Azerbaijan. Secondly, I would not advise the Prime Minister of Armenia to talk about racism, since Armenian terrorists are known all over the world. A man named Karapetyan who committed a terrorist act at Orly Airport in Paris was subsequently extradited to Armenia and pardoned by the President of Armenia. That is why I would recommend that he sit quietly when discussions are underway on such issues.”

According to Isa Habibbayli, N. Pashinyan, trying to respond to the speech of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, failed completely, as during the CIS Summit in Ashgabad and the Munich Security Conference: “Exposing the lies of N. Pashinyan by President Ilham Aliyev, who spoke to the summit in impeccable English and relied on historical facts, once again testifies that the leaders of these two countries can not even be compared. The helpless situation in which Pashinyan found himself has once again demonstrated that he relies on "street rhetoric." N. Pashinyan proved that the ability to speak at rallies is fundamentally different from the ability to speak at conferences of this level and, moreover, the ability to run a state. Even the press and the public of Armenia itself have to admit that the Prime Minister of Armenia failed. All this testifies to the fact that at this international event Pashinyan once again found himself in a dull position in front of the weighty historical facts voiced by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and disgraced himself.”
