Institute of Geography named after academician Hasan Aliyev of ANAS conducted a study on the topic "Climate factor in the desertification of arid and semi-arid lands of Azerbaijan."
Scientists used data on average annual temperature and annual rainfall in various regions of Azerbaijan to study climate change. It was found that the arid and semi-arid zones increased by +0.8 in Baku, +1.4 in Ganja, +1.4 in Agstafa and +0.8 in Nakhchivan, as was the case throughout the country. Changes in average annual precipitation are not the same.
During the observation period, annual precipitation decreased by 88 mm (25%) in Agstaf, by 7 mm (4%) in Nakhchivan and increased by 8 mm (3%) in Ganja.
