30.01.2020 / Meetings ANAS held a meeting with the Minister of Agriculture

A meeting of ANAS employees with the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Azerbaijan Inam Kerimov was held at the Presidium of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.

Opening the event, President of ANAS academician Ramiz Mehdiyev noted that today's meeting was devoted to the country's agricultural policy, food security in the country and scientific research in this area. Academician Ramiz Mehdiyev said that close relations were established between the Academy and the Ministry of Agriculture, expansion of which is one of the important and primary tasks for obtaining extrabudgetary funds from ANAS.

Then, the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Azerbaijan Inam Kerimov spoke in detail about the activities of the organization led by him. Stressing that the development of the agricultural sector in the country is of particular importance, the minister noted that, in accordance with the calls of the time, large-scale work is being carried out in the republic aimed at applying innovations and high technologies in the field of agriculture. Saying that the agrarian sector is one of the priority areas of the non-oil sector, Inam Karimov spoke about the measures that are being taken in the country in the field of development of cotton growing, fruit growing, silkworm breeding, animal husbandry and other areas, state support that is given to these sectors, as well as signed by President Ilham Aliyev relevant decrees and orders.

Stressing that the country pays special attention to increasing competitiveness and sustainable development of the agricultural sector, ensuring food security of the population, Inam Karimov added that the Food Security Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan and other similar organizations were created for this purpose.

Having said that one of the main areas of activity of the Ministry is the application of the achievements obtained in the field of agricultural sciences in the economy, the Minister spoke in detail about the Center for Agricultural Sciences and Innovations. Speaking about projects carried out jointly with ANAS, Inam Karimov emphasized that the organization he leads constantly cooperates with the corresponding scientific institutions of the Academy, the need for the help of scientists is always felt in the development of this industry. Recalling the Agreement of Intent of Cooperation signed between ANAS and the Ministry of Agriculture, Inam Karimov emphasized that the organization he leads implements various projects together with the institutes of Genetic Resources, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Botany, Zoology and other relevant scientific institutions of the Academy, regional scientific centers and branches of ANAS, one of the important priorities of state policy is the development of the agricultural sector, relying on science, knowledge niya, innovation and technology.

Further, Inam Karimov answered numerous questions of ANAS employees. The discussions were attended by members of the ANAS Presidium, heads and employees of research institutions. During the exchange of views, important issues were discussed, such as agrarian reforms, food security, expanding ties between research institutes under the ministry and the corresponding scientific institutions of the Academy, increasing yields, restoring soil, regulating the production and use of fertilizers by the state, livestock development, the creation of new fruit varieties, etc. The Minister emphasized that in the future it is necessary to use the potential of domestic scientists in the implementation of projects and programs in the agricultural sector.

At the end of the event, Academician Ramiz Mehdiyev thanked the Minister of Agriculture Inam Kerimov on behalf of ANAS employees for his participation in a fruitful meeting, as well as for answering questions of interest to scientists. The President of ANAS noted that meetings of the Academy staff with heads of state organizations in a similar format will be organized in the future.
