Thoughts expressed by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in connection with the decisions adopted by the Azerbaijan People Republic at the beginning of the XX century and the artificial renaming by Armenia of the names of localities of Azerbaijani origin are an expression of objective historical reality. Transcripts of the Azerbaijan Republic published in the form of a book, maps prepared at the beginning of the last century, archival materials, periodicals testify to these historical events and processes.

Along with this, the National Academy of Sciences has taken a number of measures to thoroughly review issues arising from the speech of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan during his visit to the Tartar region.

This was stated by the first vice president of ANAS, academician Isa Habibbayli.

“First of all, it should be noted that it is planned to prepare and publish a collection of articles entitled“ Irevan - as it is, ”consisting of studies conducted by specialists representing various fields of science in ANAS. The following steps will be taken to re-examine and publish historical maps discovered at the Institute of History after Abbasgulu Agha Bakikhanov, Institute of Geography after acad. Hasan Aliyev, and  Institute of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry. At the same time, measures were identified to expand by the institutes of History, Geography and Linguistics the study of Azerbaijani toponyms artificially changed by Armenia in different periods of the twentieth century, comparing them with pre-Soviet maps and adding falsifications in the field of toponymy in Goycha, Nagorno-Karabakh, Daralayaz and Dilijan after 1990s of the XX century into new works.

In general, in order to ensure a stable and systematic study of issues related to the names of localities, Institute of Linguistics is preparing to create a research department called “Terminology and Toponymy”.

The civic duty and the important task of real science is to objectively study and determine historical realities, bring them to the people and educate new generations in the spirit of patriotism.
