A joint meeting of the Department of Biological and Medical Sciences of ANAS and the Scientific Council of the Institute of Physiology named after academician Abdulla Garayev was held. At the online meeting, the results of the scientific and scientific-organizational activities of the institute for 2020 were discussed.

Opening the meeting, Academician Irada Huseynova, Vice-President of ANAS, Chairman of the Scientific Council of the Department of Biological and Medical Sciences of ANAS gave the floor to Professor Ulduz Hashimova, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Director of the Institute to present a report.

In her report, Ulduz Hashimova gave detailed information about the work done at the institute in connection with the implementation of the decrees and orders of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Cabinet of Ministers and of the state programs for this year and reported that 29 scientific research on 4 issues and 13 topics were carried out. It was noted that during the reporting year, the staff of the institute prepared 51 articles, 51 abstracts and 1 book, of which 27 articles and 31 abstracts were published in the foreign scientific press, and among them 12 articles were published in journals indexed in Scopus. In response to the appeal of the President of the Republic to preserve the purity of the Azerbaijani language, a dictionary "Physiological terms (in Russian, English, Azerbaijani)" was published, prepared by the staff of the institute. It was noted that the staff of the institute, especially young scientists and specialists, participated in numerous online conferences and webinars both in our republic and abroad.

The participants of the event were presented with the most important results of fundamental research in the field of gerontology, neurophysiology and cell physiology carried out at the institute, and it was noted that these results were published in impact factor journals.

Hashimova noted that in recent years the link between fundamental science and education has significantly strengthened, the institute has a branch of the Department of Human and Animal Physiology of the Baku State University, and scientific and pedagogical ties with other universities continue. She stressed that in 2020 the international relations of the institute were expanded and that official agreements on scientific and practical activities were signed with Russia and Kazakhstan.

The director of the institute also informed about the direct participation of the institute in the activities of ANAS to combat the coronavirus pandemic and to improve the country's defense capability.

Then there was a discussion of the report. Academician Irada Huseynova, Academician Valida Alizade, Corresponding Members of ANAS Rafik Gasimov, Panakh Muradov, Doctor of Biological Sciences - Ali Allakhverdiev, Doctor of Biological Sciences - Arif Mehdiyev and and Chairman of the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists of the Institute, Ph.D., Assoc. Zenfira Gadimova highly appreciated the report of the institute and offered to accept it. The report was adopted unanimously.

At the event, Academician Irada Huseynova congratulated the Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs of the Institute of Physiology, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor Akhmed Hajiyev on his 70th birthday, and noted that taking into account his many years of successful scientific activity, he was awarded the Certificate of Honor of the Department Biological and Medical Sciences of ANAS.
