Institute of Physiology is successfully implementing the research programme on the study of populations with high index of longevity in Azerbaijan. The findings of the first studies are generalized in various international prestigious journals as "Advances in Gerontology" and also in "Cell chronoblockers in biology and medicine" monograph published in Moscow's "Triumf" publishing house. The authors of the monograph are prof. Ulduz Hashimova, prof. Andrey Ilnitski and prof. Kirill Proshayev.
The work explores the contemporary theories on mechanisms of cell ageing process, some chronoblockers – biologically active substances having properties slowing down ageing processes and the prospects of producing chronoblocker-based preparations applied in prevention geriatrics. It should be noted that the monograph contains the information on contribution of Azerbaijani scientists to developing concepts of population longevity as the complex medico-biological and social phenomenon as well as to the study of geroprotecting properties of a number of plants, in particular saffron, growing in Azerbaijan. The present work will be of interest to physicians, biologists and other specialists engaged in gerontological research and the studies on nutriation, age-associated pathologies prevention and premature ageing.
In addition, recently, prof. Hashimova has become Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the international "Gerontology" research journal. The periodical edition is dedicated to a wide range of issues in gerontology, geriatrics, fundamental and applied medicine, biology of ageing and geropharmacology.
