An outstanding statesman of Azerbaijan, a brilliant representative of Azerbaijani science, president of ANAS, academician Ramiz Mehdiyev was born on April 17, 1938 in Baku. In 1957, at the age of 19, he graduated from the Baku Naval School. Then he entered the history faculty of Azerbaijan State University. The scientist began his career in 1965, and since 1972 he worked as a teacher and senior lecturer at Azerbaijan State University. Since 1974, he held senior positions in the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan, including the head of the department of science and education. Given his effective work, Ramiz Mehdiyev was appointed to the high position of Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan. Thanks to the trust placed in him by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev, Ramiz Mehdiyev has served as head of the presidential administration since 1995. During this period, an outstanding scientist took an active part in enhancing the country's prestige in the world political arena, in successfully implementing state policy, in strengthening the ideology of Azerbaijanism, and he published more than 400 books and scientific articles on the problems of building a state in independent Azerbaijan, national state history, modern development of society, international relations and much more.
On October 23, 2019, academician Ramiz Mehdiyev, already known as a historian and philosopher in the republic and abroad, was elected at the General Assembly of ANAS as the president of this prestigious scientific center. Under his leadership, a new page was opened in the activities of the Academy. Decisions were made to radically improve the structure of ANAS, modernize the management system, adapt the institution to modern requirements, integrate Azerbaijani science into world science, and concrete steps were taken. Under his leadership, the ANAS Presidium quickly developed and adopted the “ANAS Development Program for 2020–2025”, which is the basis for the development of ANAS in the near future. The focus of academician Ramiz Mehdiyev is improving the social security of employees and researchers of ANAS.
